Etude expérimentale et modélisation de la dispersion en champ lointain suite à un rejet accidentel d'un polluant miscible dans un cours d'eau. Application à la gestion de crise.

Abstract : The dangerous material releases in the environment often induce accidental pollution in river which can extend on several kilometres downstream from the source release. A small scale channel is designed and built specifically in order to assess the pollutant dispersion in the far field and to validate the chosen one-dimensional model (Advection-Dispersion Equation - ADE). The conclusions resulting from small and full scale experiments, led to the development of a new model (EMG) in order to predict the asymmetrical profiles in the initial zone of the far field. This model, based on an Exponentially Modified Gaussian (EMG), performs quite well at representing the three essential parameters during a crisis management (maximum concentrations, arrival time of the peak and the pollution) in so far as they are estimated respectively with a mean percentage error of 51, 13 and 11 % for a full-scale experiment. Finally, a complete dispersion model is proposed to evaluate the extent of an accidental pollution in the far field. It is composed of the EMG for the initial zone of the far field (asymmetrical profiles) and of the ADE for the established far field (symmetrical profiles) which is defined at a distance ranging between 12 to 50 times the mixing length. In conclusion, the suggested model is adapted to emergency management thanks to its simplicity of use and the low number of variables necessary to simulations.
