Abstract
The forest of Fontainebleau is famous for its history. Even if it has been studied for a long time, some chronological periods are still unknown. New data were used to discover many new remains. To complete this work, the ancient maps of the territory were analyzed to trace the chronology of the territorial partitioning. It has been proven that during Antiquity, this territory was oriented towards an important road that connected Paris to Lyon and to the nearest Gallo-Roman agglomeration: Melun. At the end of this period, it seems abandoned, the forest gains ground. A new organization appears. It connects the various churches and hermitages of the sector. A change takes place during the reign of Henry IV. The « Route ronde », star-shaped crossroads and forest paths are created and radiate from the Château of Fontainebleau.
Le massif forestier de Fontainebleau est réputé entre autres pour son histoire. Même s’il est étudié depuis longtemps, certaines périodes chronologiques restent méconnues. De nouvelles données ont servis à la découverte de nombreux vestiges inédits. Pour compléter ce travail, les cartes anciennes du territoire ont été analysées pour retracer la chronologie du découpage territorial. Il a été prouvé que durant l’Antiquité, ce territoire était tourné vers un axe routier important qui reliait Paris à Lyon et vers l’agglomération gallo-romaine la plus proche : Melun. A la fin de cette période, il semble abandonné, la forêt gagne du terrain. Une nouvelle organisation apparait. Elle permet de relier les différentes paroisses et ermitages du secteur. Un changement s'opère sous le règne d'Henri IV. La route ronde, des carrefours en étoile et des allées forestières sont créées et rayonnent à partir du château de Fontainebleau.
