Figuration of the female becoming in some novels of the french-speaking, french, caribbean and african literature
Figuration du devenir féminin dans quelques œuvres romanesques de la littérature française et francophone, caribéenne et africaine
Résumé
Since the 1980s, contemporary French literature has once again become transitive, reconciling itself with a story delivering a reality it redesigns, and casting a new light upon the changes affecting the Subject. Literature develops and expresses itself by building itself upon the cultural experience of the past centuries, by reappropriating and subverting its own codes, as to destabilize in a more forceful way a reader whom it already solicits a lot. The present study is part of this dynamic and aims to analyse the figuration of the female becoming in a comparative and interdisciplinary fashion. It does so considering nine novels written in French, whose stories revolve around the Atlantic Ocean.Throughout this corpus of ordinary lives’ stories, written by authors from French, African and Caribbean backgrounds, I will try to establish a gendered anthropoïetics of the contemporary feminine subject. It will help me to study how novels explore female identity and the woman’s place in our postcolonial societies. How does the text articulate the status of women today, depending on the place it is written and told? How does it figure the Subject’s becoming, considering evolution is at the root of the narrative dynamic, with the use of the female character’s inner voice ?
Depuis les années 1980, la littérature française contemporaine est redevenue transitive, renouant avec un récit qui donne à voir un réel qu’il reconfigure, tout en s’intéressant aux transformations du Sujet. Elle se nourrit et s’énonce à partir du legs culturel des siècles qui l’ont précédée, s’appropriant et subvertissant ses codes, pour mieux déstabiliser son lecteur qu’elle sollicite grandement. La présente étude s’inscrit dans cette dynamique et a pour vocation d’analyser, dans une perspective comparatiste et interdisciplinaire, la figuration du devenir féminin dans neuf romans de langue française, dont les intrigues s’articulent autour de l’océan Atlantique. À travers ce corpus de récits de vies ordinaires, d’écrivains d’origine française, africaine et caribéenne, il s’agit de dresser une anthropoïetique genrée du sujet féminin contemporain pour étudier la façon dont les œuvres traitent de l’identité féminine et du positionnement de la femme dans nos sociétés contemporaines postcoloniales. Comment le texte énonce-t-il le statut de la femme aujourd’hui, en fonction du lieu où il s’écrit et se raconte ? Comment figure-t-il un Sujet en devenir, à l’origine de la dynamique narrative, évolution retranscrite par la voix intérieure du personnage féminin ?
