Formal semantics and pragmatics of tense, aspect and modality

This mémoire gives an overview on my researches, beginning with my early work on the asymmetries between "prima" ('before') and "dopo" ('after') in Italian and going through my successive works on the temporal and modal interpretations of future tense sentences, the progressive and habitual readings of sentences in the imperfective aspect, and modality in discourse in relation to the notions of truth persistence and truth unpersistence. It preliminarily gives a unified presentation of the analytical framework used in most of my semantic researches, called "Partial Branching Time", which combines Arthur Prior's branching time model and Angelika Kratzer's notion of a possible situation.
