Etude expérimentale et rationnelle de la dégradation des couches de surfaces de chaussées

Abstract : The action of traffic, combined with climatic and chemical conditions, contributes to the progressive damage to roads and mainly to the wearing course. Damage to the wearing course is generally manifested by the appearance of downward cracks and rutting. The appearance of these pathologies has increased sharply with the emergence of new materials, the reduction in the thickness of the wearing course and the significant increase in the axle load of heavy goods vehicles. This issue raises questions about the long-term behavior of the surface layer in the face of increased traffic and climate change. This work focuses on the experimental and rational study of the behavior of surface layers. It presents full-scale tests carried out using an instrumented and thermo-controlled roadway built in the laboratory hall and an MLS10 traffic simulator. The pavement was instrumented with fiber optic sensors, strain gauges and temperature sensors distributed in depth. Four surface materials were tested. The deformations created in different positions and over the entire depth of the surface layer during the passage of a load are analyzed. The mechanical responses for straight sections and then bends are compared with the results of numerical simulations (SAM and ViscoRoute). Accelerated tests using the traffic simulator make it possible to obtain the rutting of the roadway after a large number of cycles in a relatively short time. The rutting profile, deformation characteristics and behavior of the four materials are presented and analyzed to lead to the development of a rutting prediction model.
