La Néo-Mevleviye ou l'émergence d'un confrérisme à la confluence du soufisme et du New Age en Turquie contemporaine

Abstract : Sufi brotherhood is a recurring problem in Turkey. Prohibited by a law promulgating the closure of Sufi convents and banning the use of Sufi religious titles, from the founding of the Republic at the beginning of the 20th century, the Sufi brotherhoods (tarikat) were forced to decline, with the exception of those who knew how to live in hiding. Having the particularity of being an institutional brotherhood, of which the convent was the keystone, the Mevleviye was one of the brotherhoods that have disappeared. Nowadays, we are observing the emergence of new “groups” claiming to be Mevlevis and each proceeding in their own way, to reinvent a Mevlevi tradition. This work is therefore a study of contemporary religious fact which aims to analyze the brotherhood phenomenon from a socio-anthropological point of view. At the same time, it traces the trajectory of the Ottoman Mevleviye and develops the present-day history of the current Mevleviye. It highlights through the example of the mevlevi case, the emergence of new brotherhoods which, on the one hand bypass the republican law, and on the other hand, bypass the fundamental principles of the Sufi order to which they are attached. Its purpose is therefore to analyze the actors and the structure of this new polycephalous and protean Mevleviye. The new beliefs and practices of the actors are underlined in order to highlight the influence of the New Age on the new forms of Sufi sociability in the Turkish brotherhood landscape, and the hybrid character of these.
