Abstract : The rise of environmental issues encourages mechanical manufacturing companies to integrate the environment into their product design process. In developing countries, small and medium enterprises are recognized worldwide as the most jobs and processors of economic growth. However, they have gaps to use the eco-design approach to eco innovation. In Benin, small units, processors of agricultural and agrifoodstuffs equipment, face enormous challenges due to lack of acquisition sustainable design concepts. This thesis work aims firstly to propose a simple eco-design method that can be adapted to the realities of Benin and secondly to validate the method using three case studies. All this, in order to provide customers firstly, use values and special attraction and on the other hand, competitive differentiation and economic value. In this momentum, a new quality approach to sustainable design: the IBS method (for Breaking Innovation and Sustainability) is proposed." It’s a combination of approaches " Design for Sustainability: (D4S) " and " Conception of Equipment in the South for Agricultural and Agrifoodstuffs, Method (CESAM) " with environment technical assessment of standard NF E 01-005. The implementation of the IBS method has made it possible to design and manufacture three eco-designed cassava grater (recyclability rate 72.50 %; 2.72 times more efficient and 1.25 times less fuel-consuming than the classic grater), the eco-designed cassava press (recyclability rate 75.40 %; 8.38 times more efficient and 3.28 times more profitable than the classic press) and the peanut sheller (recyclability rate 92.16 %; 1.22 times more efficient than the classic peanut sheller).
