Les enjeux socioéconomiques de la sortie de l’extractivisme pétrolier et de la mise en œuvre du buen vivir en Équateur

Abstract : This thesis attempts to determine the different issues involved in the implementation of buen vivir in Ecuador. This notion translates a state of subjective, holistic well-being that integrates a balanced relationship between man and nature. Buen vivir is characterized by its polysemy, which complicates its readability but allows the exploration of certain limits of the different schools of economic thought to which it refers. Its implementation induces a twofold challenge: the possibility of implementing more sustainable development and the transformation of the Ecuadorian productive structure. After confronting the governance of buen vivir with that of natural resources and the transformation of the productive structure, we will analyze its effectiveness in a multidimensional way through a descriptive data analysis that does not allow us to determine a causal relationship. Nevertheless, it shows an improvement in social indicators financed by the increase in external debt and limited diversification of the productive structure. We complete our study with a qualitative analysis based on 40 interviews conducted with key stakeholders in the implementation of buen vivir. These interviews are processed through a mixed approach of manual and software-assisted content analysis using Iramuteq. The polysemy of buen vivir is more contrasted, with stakeholders preferring the original approach to characterize it. Public policies are generally perceived as ineffective, highlighting the failures of emblematic projects. The issues defined by the stakeholders are of four types: structural change and public debt, education for buen vivir, the political economy of transition, and the conceptual challenge of defining multicultural development
