Les communautés de métier : améliorer la performance organisationnelle, professionnelle et managériale sur les chantiers complexes et à risques

Abstract : This thesis aims to study the conditions of performance of complex and high risk contruction projects through the original concept of occupational community. This empirical questioning aims at enriching the reflections on the notions of organizational performance and occupational identity, carried by the literature on organizational reliability, by interactionist approaches, by the sociology of occupational groups, and by theories on situated learning. Starting from the observation of the formal organization of a ship yard and the concrete activity of its actors, we will highlight the articulation issues that animate three main actors of the ship yard, with sometimes contradictory logics of functioning: the professionals, the field managers and the project organization. This field study will finally lead us to redefine the notion of construction site and to discuss the already existing concepts of communities of practice and occupational groups with regard to the original concept of occupational community.
