Education à la responsabilité : étude du rapport entre les pratiques des formes d'autorité parentale déclarées et les systèmes de motivation autorapportés de l'enfant

Abstract : The responsibility is defined by the coherence of the subject (the author) between the « saying» and the « acting». It reflexes the link between man and nature, man and his community and community with nature. These « retroactive and dynamic relationships » (Sauvé, 2000) require an education who leads the children to take the responsibility to himself, his community and the environment, especially, in family education. Our study interrogates therefore how parents conduct their children to be responsible for their actions or choices through authority practices. Instead, we emphasize the relationship between parental authority forms and children’s motivational systems. We accentuate also the children’s development of the responsibility-indicating skills that guide them to respond to their needs or desires while respecting those of others and their living environment. We are based on Daniel’s motivational systems approach (2007) and five responsibility indicating skills developed by Hagège (2018), in order to build our research tools. We use the quantitative method and the triangle method to implement comparison tests: parent-child, parent-parent. The qualitative analysis is employed for open-ended questions. We have interrogated all total 38 parents and 55 children aged 8 to 11 years old. The results obtained showed that the authority-autonomization forms raise the children’s motivation of innovation (pleasure of discovery, taking initiatives) whereas the authority-domination forms cause the discouragement feeling and the submission. In addition, the obtained results indicate that the children need the support, the orientation of their parents in order to develop their emotional, epistemic, attentional, relational, axiological skills, in particular, emotions control, critical thinking, attention to language use, ecologic behaviors, taking conscious about their choices.
