Etude des commutateurs hyperfréquences à base de matériaux à changement de phase (PCM)

Abstract : The main purpose of this work consists in developing a switching matrix for the control of the radio frequency signals of the transmission-reception chain in the payload of the satellites. Electromechanical relays are currently used for this purpose with performances (losses and isolation) higher than those offered by the semiconductor components. In addition, they are bistable, which is very important for the equipment manufacturers of the space industry, because it limits the risk of the equipment failure. The PCMs, originally known in memory applications (non-volatile), make it possible to provide this bistability and solve the bulk problems known by electromagnetic relays. Today, there are few developments on PCM switches in Europe while several American defense companies are well positioned on the subject.The main goals of this thesis were oriented towards three themes. Starting with the presentation of a general state of the art on RF switches more particularly the PCM switches. Followed by the understanding of the basic phenomena of the phase change of the GeTe material under the action of external heating (thermal study), thanks to the different layers making up the PCM switch. Followed by the presentation of different SPST switches and an SPDT matrix showing the manufacturing, design (Finite Element Simulation) and measurement stages.
