« C’est pour ton bien » : étude sur les expérimentations éducatives se réclamant d’un traditionalisme culturel en Chine contemporaine

Abstract : Since the period of the Reform, China has known an accelerated economic growth, which induces many asymmetries: environmental pollution, growing corruption, the slackening of moral standards. At the same time, a more educated middle class slowly emerges, worried about the future of their children, generally a single one. There comes a demand in private education with the emergence of a real education market, while for almost twenty years has appeared the revival of tradition, involving a movement of reading classics for children. Competition has set aside some fragile or sensitive children, whose parents are turning to alternative schools that do not follow the official compulsory curriculum. This research based on several sojourns of participant observation and interviews, analyzes three boarding schools in three different regions addressed to children of school age, which have in common the teaching of tradition proposed in divergent ways. Two schools are Confucian, one proposes memorization of the classics exclusively, the other one started that way, but is in constant transformation, and the latter includes the study of the classics but no memorization and nature as the main teacher. The methods and goals differ according to the ideal child that is aimed to, and this search for an ideal indicates that for the good of the child, his voice is often not heard
