Simulation de changements d’apparence via hydrodynamique des particules lissées

Abstract : The generation of realistic images is a central topic of research incomputer graphics. In order to obtain such images numerous problems must be solvedfrom the modelisation of the scene geometry, modeling light-matter interactions andsolving the light transport in the whole scene. If solving these problem enables thegeneration of realistic imagery it does not guarantee a photo-realistic appearence.Indeed, real-life scenes rarely exhibit objects with pristine appearence and the presenceof perfectly preserved object in a virtual scene seems very uncanny to the humanperception. It is thus required to add details to virtual scenes’s objects appearence. Thisthesis proposes a solution based on a lagrangian simulation framework using the smoothparticle hydrodynamics to model interactions between solid, fluid, sediments and thetransport of matter through virtual scenes. Using particles to discretize the whole volumeof objects enables to model geometry and material property changes simulteanously. Theproposed approach can simulate a wide variety of weathering effects from the wettingand drying of porous material, stains formation or even efflorescence in a unified fashion.
