Approche énactive de l'appropriation des artefacts numériques : Le cas des enseignants du secondaire à Kinshasa (RDC)

Abstract : This thesis focuses on the appropriation of digital artifacts by teachers working in two secondary schools in Kinshasa (DRC), and takes into account the environmental conditions because appropriation is considered as a part of the environment. Our approach focused on the articulation between the conditions characterizing an external environment to the teacher (digital infrastructure, for example) and his process of appropriation of this environment, from digital artifacts considered as mediators between the subject and his environment. The ethnographic method mobilised provided the results concerning the appropriation of digital artifacts and the interdependent (extrinsic and intrinsic) environmental conditions for teachers, with reference to Coen and Schumacher's (2006) appropriation model. This methodological orientation, essentially based on the multi-case study, allowed to document the environmental conditions for the appropriation of digital artifacts, based on the teachers’own experience, specific context and culture of reference. Our research was carried out in two schools with different characteristics in terms of digital infrastructure, technopedagogical policies and teachers’ salaries. To get data, two phases of investigations were carried out: the first one, exploratory, focused on the digital artefacts mobilised and the characteristics of the teachers' environmental conditions in their specific context. Taking into account the results of the first phase, the second phase focused on the interdependence between appropriation and environmental conditions. Thus, through data triangulation (real-life observations, interviews and questionnaires), we have been able to get significant results regarding the appropriation of digital artifacts and its environmental conditions. For each school studied, the results highlighted three aspects: the phases and their indicators for two phases of appropriation (transformation and routinisation) as well as the extrinsic and intrinsic conditions influencing them.
