Les initiatives citoyennes à São Paulo à la lumière des capabilités vers l'adaptation au changement climatique

Abstract : Numerous citizen initiatives have been developing in the urban space in recent years, concerning the living environment and the environment. They are notably structured around spontaneous solidarity of committed citizens who wish to experiment their citizenship through action. More specifically, initiatives attempting to address climate change are emerging at the city level, as illustrated by the development of community gardens in the city of São Paulo/Brazil.This thesis work analyzes gardening experiences in São Paulo, through the recognition of plants in community and private gardens. It also identifies the new diets that are emerging within the city, through the prism of the capability approach. The notion of capability advocates the idea of development based on the freedom of individuals to mobilize their resources for their emancipation; to enrich their choices in terms of opportunities (the potential to act) while becoming aware of the different factors that affect their living conditions. Evoking capabilities to deal with adaptation to climate change means integrating the idea that adaptation emerges from the relationship between evolving constraints and interacting human capabilities. Taking into account what we call "socio-environmental capabilities" therefore makes it possible to preserve the richness of adaptation trajectories, while trying to integrate them into the framework of public policies, in order to implement interactive approaches that would increase societal interest in what constitutes the relationship between individuals and climate situations.
