Epidémiologie de l'épilepsie dans les pays à revenus faibles et intermédiaires : construire un outil référentiel pour des méthodes validées et partagées

Abstract : In 2000, the « Questionnaire for the Investigation of Epilepsy in Tropical Countries » was made available to the scientific community in order to promote epidemiological studies and standardized data collection. The aim of this thesis was to both update the questionnaire according to the current knowledge on epilepsy and create a digital version. First, a systematic review showed that 91 tools have been developed in low- and middle- income countries (LMIC) for the investigation of epilepsy. They targeted specific aspects of the disease. Their respective development processes were heterogenous and few tools were identified in Africa. Second, the study on the use of the « Questionnaire for the Investigation of Epilepsy in Tropical Countries » over the past 20 years showed that it was used about 2.4 times a year. The questionnaire was mostly used in prevalence (n=31), associated factors (n=28), and treatments studies (n=10). Users mentioned that it is an easy-to-use tool for health care professionals in primary care; however, most of them recommended an update. Third, the update started with the development of the new version. Currently, an e-Delphi study is being carried-out so that the content can be assessed and validated by experts on epilepsy in LMIC.
