L’activité des EJE, clef de voûte de l’éducation inclusive au sein des lieux d’accueil de la petite enfance ? Une recherche collaborative avec des EJE

Abstract : The objective of this collaborative research is to understand inclusive education in the early childhood sector. Inclusive education is advised in many written works, and we will look into what early childhood professionals, and more especially Early Childhood Educators (ECE), are experiencing. The activity of ECE is centred around various elements and attempts to maintain their cohesion: between welcoming children, supporting their parents, and coordinating teams and partner networks. Therefore, the activity of ECE appears to be the ‘cornerstone’ of inclusive education. The research carried out is a collaborative research, which lasted three years, with ECE working in three types of early childhood centres (a games library, early childhood community centres, and day care centres with flexiblearrangements). From the following research question: “In what ways are early childhood centres environments with physical and human perspectives that contribute to inclusive education?”, we have put to work different hypotheses through a collaborative research, which combines three methodological tools (observations, interviews and writing and brainstorming workshops on the activity), to design a mosaic approach on inclusive education. Various aspects of inclusive education were able to be highlighted: favourable (or unfavourable) conditions to inclusive early childhood education within collective centres, parents’ views in regard to their inclusion within early childhood centres, current negotiations between different educational bodies and lastly, the real activity of ECE for inclusive early childhood education within collective centres.
