Le roman britannique contemporain au défi de la vulnérabilité : M. Amis, J. Coe, J. McGregor, D. Mitchell, P. Neate

Abstract : Vulnerability is at the heart of all sensible human experiences. Many contemporary British novels show how it becomes harder and harder for people to adapt to the contemporary world. We may consider that they illustrate in a practical way what vulnerability means. Both philosophical and literary texts provide answers to the ethical concern of vulnerability. The analysis of the representation of vulnerable subjects in contemporary novels raises many ethical questions. What theoretical and philosophical basis does the literary expression of vulnerability rely on? What does it mean to be a subject in our societies? What political vision does it imply? To answer the challenge of vulnerability is to try to show that it is at the delicate level of the articulations between societal and individual issues that it needs to be examined and represented.
