La valeur éthique du détachement dans la relation soignant-soigné

Abstract : This thesis, located in the field of applied medical ethics, is of particular interest to caregivers and patients. It demonstrates, through the theater paradigm, that care providers and patients could adopt the principle of detachment. This principle, like the principles of autonomy, justice, beneficence and non-maleficence, adapts perfectly to the care relationship. By adopting a positioning similar to that of the actor on a theatrical stage, the caregiver relies on the emotions useful for his task, leaving those of his private life outside the hospital. Thus the two agents of the care relationship find a balance, the caregiver assesses the right distance, and the patient can remain active in his life. But in principle, detachment becomes a virtue: each caregiver develops a detached character that allows him, with practice, to care for, decide, advise and educate the patient, but also the other caregivers on his team. Thus, despite the pain noted in the world of caregivers, the virtue of detachment brings the very beginning of a response to a search for pleasure in caring in the daily practice of caregivers. Finally, they can help each patient approach their hospital stay with a state of mind that approaches the virtue of detachment. The pleasure and freedom encountered by everyone through the practice of detachment, restore the strength to care for health professionals and protect them from exhaustion.
