Compatibilité Electromagnétique de satellites de télécommunication constitués de cavités couplées

Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to determine the electromagnetic (EM) field in each cavity of a satellite payload. To do so, the determination of the EM field is presented on two systems of respectively 4 and 5 cavities (from a designed 4-cavity system) using three different methods: - Analytically with a model based on Power Balance principle ; - Experimentally with direct (with a probe) and indirect (with a Vector Analyzer Network) measurements ; - Numerically with a full-wave software using the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method. The first original aspect of this work lies in the complexity of the systems under studies. Indeed, the Q-factor are different for each cavity (that may contain external aperture) through the insertion of some absorbing blocks. A good correlation between the results calculated from these measurements and the Power Balance results has been obtained. The second and main original aspect of this work concerns a method able to consider in a full-wave FDTD simulation a different Q-factor in each cavity of the same system through the addition of an equivalent conductivity on only one side of each cavity. Finally, without any usable measurement results on a satellite, a parametric study has been performed using the geometry of a generic satellite. This study allow us to quantify the impact of the parameters known at the moment where the EMC study is performed. Thales Alenia Space Company, partner of this thesis, can now use more developed validated methods to deal with the EMC study of complex cavity-system.
