Designing a self-directed environment taking advantage of the social web for Vietnamese students of French
Conception d’un dispositif d’auto-apprentissage du FLE exploitant les potentialités du web social pour des étudiants vietnamiens
Résumé
Being part of the teaching of languages and cultures – French as a foreign language, or more precisely Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), this thesis aims to study in which conditions Vietnamese students of French can benefit from the teaching method based on the social web. We also try to find out if this teaching method could encourage self-learning.The social web is a part of the web 2.0, where people can create and publish content. It provides an environment for interactional tasks in which social interactions take place in genuine situations and learners become real users of the language. In this perspective, in 2014, the project “Self-learning French with the Internet” was set up for second year undergraduate students at the Department of French, of the College of Foreign Languages, Hue University.Thanks to two questionnaires sent to the participants at the start and at the end of the project; the works published on the groups’ Facebook pages and other social websites; and most importantly 12 semi-structured interviews, we have cross-referenced the data in order to identify the difficulties encountered by our students. They were linguistic, thematic, technical, material, strategic, pedagogic and above all psychological. In addition, desirable characteristics of a self directed environment taking advantage of the social web for Vietnamese students of French also noted.Key words: French as a foreign language, CALL, Vietnamese students, Internet, social web, task, interactional approach, self-learning, autonomy
S'inscrivant dans la didactique des langues et cultures - français langue étrangère (DLC-FLE), ou plus précisément dans l'apprentissage des langues assisté par ordinateur (ALAO), cette thèse vise à savoir dans quelles conditions les étudiants de FLE vietnamiens tireraient profit d’une approche basée sur le web social (WS). Nous cherchons également à comprendre si une telle démarche favoriserait l’autonomie chez eux.Le WS est la dimension participative du web 2.0, où tous les utilisateurs peuvent créer et publier des contenus. Il offre un environnement propice aux tâches interactionnelles dans lesquelles se déroulent des interactions sociales dans des situations réelles et les apprenants deviennent de vrais usagers de la langue face à des destinataires réels. Dans cette perspective, en 2014, le projet « Auto-apprentissage du français avec Internet » a été mis en place auprès des étudiants en deuxième année de licence au Département de Français de l’École Supérieure de Langues Étrangères – Université de Hué.Grâce à deux questionnaires administrés à ces participants au début et à la fin du projet, à leurs productions publiées dans les groupes Facebook (plates-formes du projet) et sur les pages WS employées, et surtout aux 12 entretiens semi-directifs effectués, nous avons procédé au croisement des données afin d’y identifier les difficultés qu'avaient rencontrées nos apprenants. Elles étaient d’ordre linguistique, thématique, technique, matériel, stratégique, pédagogique et particulièrement psychologique.
