Occurrence et devenir des métabolites de quatre familles de pesticides (néonicotinoïdes, carbamates, organophosphorés, phénylpyrazoles) dans des ressources en eau potable et filières de potabilisation

Abstract : The presence of pesticides in water is a topical issue in France as in many other countries. The European drinking water directive stipulates that any pesticide should not be present at a concentration above 0.1 µg/L in drinking water; It is the same for its relevant degradation products and metabolites. Studies on the persistence of pesticides in the ecosystem - particularly in the waters - mobilize many research teams and programs of supervision for four decades, a lot of metabolites and degradation products remain unknown. The most recent analytical instruments provide limits of detection and selectivity enabling a more comprehensive assessment of the phenomena of pollution. A first direct approach is to find and measure the pesticides, their metabolites and degradation products known in environmental matrices and to assess the state of the environment throughout the molecules considered. The sensitivity of mass spectrometers allows nowadays to achieve detection limits compatible with the concentrations expected in ecosystems. Of course, this approach requires to know the nature of metabolites and products in question. A qualitative and quantitative study has been carried out on the metabolites of four families of pesticides (neonicotinoids, carbamates, organophosphates, phenylpyrazoles). Very little is known about the fate of those compounds and their metabolites in French waters. At first a prioritization methodology was set up allowing the identification of new metabolites to study. LC-MS/MS coupled with online SPE analytical methods were developed and validated for that purpose, then a sampling campaign was organised on different drinking water resources, along drinking water treatment plants and in treated water in order to measure the occurrence of these metabolites. The final information provide a first map for the metabolites of the four families over a representative part of French territory. The final objective is to anticipate possible non-compliance with raw water and treated water and to provide solutions upstream of changes in sanitary control for metabolites not or little monitored.
