Les espaces de la retraite internationale : pour une géographie du contre-champ migratoire

Abstract : Based on a compilation of available data (EFL, CNAV) and a survey carried out in the Moroccan region of Souss-Massa from 2017 to 2019 of 80 retirees, as well as of institutional, associative or private actors gravitating to the retired presence in Morocco, this geography thesis questions the changes in the Franco-Moroccan migratory field. These are based on the aging of its players on the one hand, but also on the gradual installation of a retired French population in flow between the two countries. Thus, Moroccan and French retirees are studied within the same migratory space which they reconfigure while renewing the contours and functioning of the initial migratory field, bringing out a "counter-field". This analytical comparison aims to re-examine and deconstruct the categories of "return migrations" and "lifestyle migrations", in order to shed light on the spatial practices linked to aging and migration. Leaving a certain determinism specific to the usual ethno-national categorizations, the thesis shows that spatial practices, and in particular the practices and forms of residential installation, are shaped primarily by the aging process, more than by the origin or the nationality of the migrant retiree. Migratory and residential studies prove to be complementary in the reflection underlying this thesis. They make it possible to underline the importance of the social network - especially family - in the spatial logic of retirement.
