Etude du ψ(2S) en fonction de la multiplicité de particules chargées dans les collisions proton-proton à √s = 13 TeV au LHC avec le détecteur ALICE : Caractérisation et tests sous faisceau du Muon Forward Tracker d'ALICE

Abstract : At CERN, the ALICE experiment is dedicated to the study of hadronic matter at high temperature and energy density. In order to identify its properties, the production of probes made of heavy quarks such as the two charmonium states J/ψ and ψ(2S), is measured in different collision systems. The charmonium production in high energy proton-proton collisions at the LHC allows to test the theoretical description of their production mechanisms without hot hadronic matter. The high charged-particle multiplicity environment created in such collisions allows to study the role of multiple partonic interactions and some potential collective effects in small systems. In this context, the measurement of ψ(2S) as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV during the LHC Run 2, is presented in this thesis. The measurement of the relative production of ψ(2S) with respect to the fundamental state J/ψ is also presented and compared to different measurements and theoretical predictions aiming to improve the understanding of the correlations observed between the processes occurring at different energy scales. During the Run 3, the Muon Forward Tracker (MFT) will be one of the important upgrades of the ALICE detector. It will extend its physics program and will significantly increase the precision of its measurements. The characterization process of the MFT sensors and the results of the beam tests performed during the detector commissioning phase are also presented.
