La leçon du silence : littérature et relation sociale chez Maurice Blanchot

Abstract : This thesis aims to examine the connections between literature and social relation in the work of Maurice Blanchot. The main hypothesis is that the thinking of community that is commonly associated with his name was gradually developed in his critical pieces from 1941 to 1958, coinciding with his “political silence”. The passage from a far-right political thinking to a radical left one is therefore heavily influenced by his literary experience, which will paradoxically change his aesthetic point of view. The confrontation of his views to a series of thinkers (G.W.F. Hegel, Georges Bataille, Emmanuel Levinas et Dionys Mascolo) will allow us to show the relevance of Blanchot’s ideas and understand its philosophical, ethical and political consequences.
