Médiation musicale dans la maladie d’Alzheimer. : une étude de son impact sur la mémoire autobiographique et la remédiation des capacités cognitives et de la communication

Abstract : The development of non-pharmacological treatments is currently a key focus in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The aim of the current work was to further support the data in the literature on the influence of music on autobiographical memory by building an evaluation paradigm, "music-index", by analogy to the "word-index" method. This method allowed us to highlight original results concerning the quality of memories recovered by people with AD thanks to " music-index ". Then, we continued with two other studies on memory recollections, focusing on psycho-linguistic analyses. The first concerns a group study for which we analyzed the memory stories according to their construction (category of words and style of speech used). The results do not show a different construction between the two modalities (word and music-index). The results only allow us to objectify patients' language disorders. On the other hand, by favouring a case description for the third study, we were able to address an improvement in the pragmatics of speech in the musical context. Finally, the last objective was to develop a study comparing musical remediation with standard cognitive remediation in a randomized controlled trial. The results show cognitive and behavioural benefits that are more pronounced after musical remediation sessions. In In addition, these sessions were also able to show an improvement in communication on the pragmatic aspects, which corroborated the hypothesis raised within studies 2 and 3. Our work has therefore allowed us to clarify scientific data concerning the influence of music on autobiographical memory skills, as well as to open up perspectives on its influence on communication skills and in particular the pragmatics of language. Our methods (music-index and musical remediation) have direct therapeutic implications that can be used in clinical practice.
