Représentations et pratiques ordinaires de l'espace documentaire en milieu scolaire

Abstract : This study aims at analysing the representations and ordinary use of school librarians and students in the documentation space known as “Centre de Documentation et d’Information” (CDI) in French secondary schools. The school library is understood as a documentary space both in a physical and digital way. Its use is academic, information-related, but also social. Use and representations are studied spatially. In this dimension, the actors are seen as individuals with a spatial ability of their own, who experience the documentation space : indeed, beyond sheer visual aspects, we look into the dynamics of the space as it is said to be experienced. The methodology used is qualitative. Semi-directed interviews are carried out with school librarians and students in five middle schools. Participative photo elicitation interviews allow us to show the different visions of the documentary space that the various actors may have. The analysis of the results shows different kinds of documentation landscapes, created by both professionals and students in their everyday use.
