Modélisation, Analyse Thermo-Economique et Optimisation du Procédé de Dessalement d'Eau de Mer par Evaporation à Effet Multiple Combiné avec les Technologies d'Energie Renouvelables

Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the potential of the multiple-effect desalination process coupled with renewable energy technologies to ensure the availability fresh water with at low-cost and low environmental impact as well as to seek different ways and possibilities to make this process more competitive from an economic, technical and environmental point of view. This study is mainly based on modeling, thermal, exergy and thermo-economic analysis, optimization and comparison of the different possibilities and coupling of desalination and renewable energy technologies. Thus, firstly, a pilot scale four-effect case study is performed using thermal modeling and analysis and based on energy and matter conservation laws and heat transfer equations and correlations. This preliminary study is carried out to determine the degree of influence of the operating and design parameters on the unit performance. Then, it is extended to find the optimal configuration of the multiple effect evaporation units for different production capacities and taking into consideration the impact of the number of effects on the unit performance. The main objective function is the unit cost of freshwater production. Then, a detailed comparison of different solar thermal power generation technologies and systems is made to determine the best choice between them to be coupled with the multiple effect evaporation process. Finally, the analysis and optimization studies take into consideration the coupling of the multiple effect process and the mechanical vapor compression process driven by renewable energy. The results of this proposal shows that this new coupling could offer a very promising prospect in terms of production cost and also in terms of environmental protection
