Le dispositif artistique à l’épreuve de la mémoire, une expérience du récit

Abstract : This thesis in visual arts focuses on the capacity of the artistic device (dispositif) to create the conditions conducive to the sensitive actualisation of a spatial, intimate and daily experience. This concomitant work of theoretical research and plastic practice begins with the storytelling of its trigger element : the demolition of an emblematic building in the city of Saint-Étienne, the Plein Ciel tower. It then describes the conditions under which individual and collective memories emerge. Through interviews with residents, it considers the possible updating of their experiences during a descriptive act. The thesis apprehends and records the processes and methods of reminiscence, whether graphic, verbal or gestural, that people use when representing their former places of life. This device is first of all the subject of a reflection on the plastic, relational and emotional strategies that structure the experience. By confronting intimate experiences and collective representations, this research tests the spectator's memories and considers the conditions for the emergence of an emotion of participation: empathy.
