Audibilité des alarmes dans le bruit : méthodes d’évaluation de l’effet du port de protecteurs auditifs et des atteintes auditives

Abstract : It is difficult to predict the effect of hearing protection on a worker's ability to detect an alarm in a background noise. Because its detection ability will be influenced by the spectra of noises and alarms, its auditory status and the attenuation function of the protector used, it remains complicated to predict this effect without performing subjective perception tests. These tests are complicated to conduct, particularly because of the difficulty of recruiting a population of listeners that represents the variety of hearing status found in the workplace. In the context of occupational safety, the work presented first assesses the effects of two hearing protectors using the classic subjective testing method. Then, two alternative methods are proposed and evaluated to evaluate more easily and quickly the effect of wearing hearing protection on detection in noise, taking into account hearing status. The first method proposes to modify the sound signals used during the tests so that they are perceived by normal hearing listeners as if they were hearing impaired, thus considerably reducing the time required to recruit listeners and to perform these tests. The second method consists of a model developed to predict detection in noise according to auditory status. The results of these methods are compared with those obtained by the classical method. Despite some limitations, both methods have satisfactory results, which encourages further development. In particular, the model can be used as it is to easily estimate the effect of wearing hearing protector on alarm audibility
