La construction territoriale des enseignant.e.s : la socialisation des professeur.e.s des écoles dans un territoire rural et populaire

Abstract : This thesis aims to show how the socialization of primary school teachers is territorial. The territory is understood here in its geographical, socio-demographic and politico-administrative dimensions. Mobilized to investigate, between 2015 and 2019, in a landlocked, rural and popular area, this mode of apprehension is conducive to understanding the links between commitments as teachers and the territory as a generator of professional and extra-professional practices. As shown in the first part, the analysis of these processes requires the construction of a survey that retraces the paths of teachers and reveals the conditions, forms and effects of their socialization by the territory. These dynamics are examined through the lens of the most effective educational and sociological tools to question this socialization. A second part can then set about restoring the conditions of the latter, to show how teacher enrolments in a territory are at the crossroads of individual and collective logics and social and politico-administrative logics. Since this socialization by the territory is based on commitment as a teacher, a third part then reconstitutes its "school matrix": the forms of these processes are based on enrolment in educational collectives, on local modalities of public educational action as well as on the characteristics of school audiences. The effects of this socialization are not compartmentalized in the school world. Consequently, a fourth and final part identifies the latter by replacing the practices and representations of the territory linked to academic engagement in the life alongside and in the temporality of teachers - professional careers but also trajectories as a whole. These analyses reveal the territorial multidetermination of socializations and their variations according to the characteristics of places and actors. However, the survey carried out is enlightening on the broader reality of teachers' territorial socializations and how, in return, they intervene in the lives of school groups and inhabitants: while territories build teachers, the latter build territories.
