Emotionscapes. S'é-mou-voir des situations géographiques

Abstract : This volume contributes to a geography of nature that I propose to question through the pragmatist triptych of detachment-domination-dependence. Such a philosophical approach has so far had little echo in geography. Detachment allows us to take a step back from landscapes and address them by means of classifications, scales and hierarchy. Domination of the environment brings us to consider the action of humans through the prism of question-raising situations and social problems. Dependence refers to attachment to environments by highlighting the diversity of perspectives and questioning the cohabitation of different agents. Emotionscapes enable the crossing of knowledge, actions and emotions. Tensions arise from the coexistence of these three modalities of being in the world; such tensions underline the need for moral and political deliberation to define problems and reconcile or prioritize diverging interests. In this pragmatist, more humanistic and more than human perspective nature becomes what brings and binds us together.
