Magnetic properties of the unconventional superconductors epsilon-Fe, FeSe and Ca2CuO2Cl2 investigated by x-ray and neutron scattering

Abstract : The ubiquitous proximity of magnetic and superconducting order in unconventional superconductors implies the importance of understanding magnetism in these materials. In this context, this thesis concerns the study of magnetism in three unconventional superconductors. The magnetic excitations in the light element copper oxychloride system Ca2CuO2Cl2 were studied as a function of doping and temperature using primarily resonant inelastic x-ray scattering. The effect of pressure on magnetism in epsilon-iron and beta-FeSe was studied using x-ray emission spectroscopy and neutron powder diffraction.
