C. Institut-de-recherche-en-astrophysique-et-planétologie, U. , C. , and U. De-toulouse, Laboratoire de Physique des Plasmas

T. X. Antonio and U. , The large-scale magnetic field bipolar signature was not found in the component normal to the nominal magnetopause surface, 12 Swedish Institute of Space Physics

, The densities and pitch angle distributions of suprathermal electrons shows that the current sheet separated two distinct plasmas with different properties and magnetic connectivities

, An intense and complex current structure, supporting the large reversal in the B YGSE component, was observed near the peak in the magnetic field strength

, Although the scale of the structure is approximately three times the ion Larmor radius, the structure possesses smaller scale substructures, smaller than the ion Larmor radius. The intense current sheet was associated with a strong transverse flow (along V YGSE ) consistent with expectations from magnetic reconnection therein

, The data are rather consistent with a complex, three-dimensional interaction of two distinct flux tubes. This compressive interaction led to the formation of a thin and complex current structure between two flux tubes of very different orientations (73° magnetic shear angle) which mimicked the bipolar magnetic structure and the enhanced core magnetic field, both expected for classic FTEs, Our interpretation is that these properties are incompatible with a classic, single FTE structure
