Optimisation mécatronique de multiplicateurs magnétiques pour le grand éolien

Abstract : In order to optimize the cost of wind turbines, we often choose to insert a mechanical speed multiplier with gears between the turbine and the generator. Its advantage is to reduce the cost of the electric generator by reducing its mechanical torque. Unfortunately, mechanical multipliers are prone to failures that increase the cost of operating the wind turbine. Maintenance costs can therefore become so high that certain manufacturers seek to dispense with this component, especially in offshore applications. Among the alternative solutions to mechanical multiplier conversion chains, an innovative way is to replace the gear multiplier with magnetic technology. To properly assess such a solution, it is essential to adopt a transversal mechatronic approach considering both the magnetic and mechanical aspects. Such an approach is original and to carry it out, it was necessary to develop multi-physical models in order to assess performance. Thus, the work of this thesis focused on the development of electromagnetic, mechanical and thermal models of two architectures of magnetic multipliers. To carry out a global optimization, these models must be very efficient in terms of compromise between calculation time and precision. We finally carried out an overall optimization of the magnetic and mechanical parts of a magnetic multiplier for multi-megawatt wind turbines and showed that a mechatronic approach made it possible to obtain better results than a traditional method consisting in decoupling the magnetic and mechanical dimensions.
