Determinants of stunting in East Africa

Abstract : The thesis examines nutritional and environmental determinants of childhood stunting in East Africa. I will examine stunting by using epidemiologic analysis of secondary data (i.e. DHS data) and the analysis of biochemical data related to micronutrient and enteropathy status. During the 2015-2016 academic year, I published three manuscripts related to stunting in Ethiopia, collected stool samples as part of a case-control study in Tanzania, and received funding to analyze these samples. Laboratory analysis will be done in November-December 2016. This research study in Tanzania will examine both the nutritional and environmental factors associated with linear growth.
