Evolution de l'arithmétique dans les plans d'études des futurs instituteurs : analyse écologique et historique.

Abstract : Justified initially by research into the requirments whixh allow units of knowledge to persist over a period of time in the study plans of trainee teachers , this study puts forward a historical and ecological analysis dealing with the development of two" current arithmetical concepts for trainee teachers : numeration and the property of numbers. Symbolising an arithmetic which links both practical and theoretical components these concepts seem "a priori" insensitive both to the fluctuating constraints which alter institutions ans the development of scholarly knowledge. the ecological and historical analysis of the process whereby the concepts "numeration" and "properties of numbers" are introduced into the study plans of primaru teachers leads us to characterise what can cover the "theoretical-professional needs " of the student teacher in the course of the training being studied. these needs manifest themselves in the presence of certain conditions and links which correlate thel. these conditions are as follows : the Existence of a selected body of knowledgecontrolled by society The presence of a "theory" which illuminates the "didactic art" relating to this knowledge. The putting into prectice of this theory linked to the knowledge... the theoretical practical link The clear definition (in the eyes of society) of the social and educative uses of the units of knowledge. While altering the definition of the theoretical -profesional needs of the student teacher these conditions maintain the existence of certain units of knowledge as well as they alter their environment . historically the show themselves to be tillers steering study plans and the organisation of teacher training . Thus, They appear to us still today as a means of illuminating the requirements for the existence of a "current arithmetic" and a way of bringing out the conditions which encourage a "potential arithmetic".
