Les « invisibles » de l’hôpital : Parcours et projets migratoires des praticiens à diplôme hors Union européenne (PADHUE) dans la région Poitou-Charentes

Abstract : French medical demography currently shows territorial disparities in health practitioners’ distribution. These imbalances are partially linked to a lack of health practitioners in hospitals established in secondary urban poles. Also, this is due to strategies of avoidance of certain disadvantaged areas (with rural or urban background) by young generations of doctors. In this context of "localized shortage" of doctors graduated in French universities, the country has opened its hospitals to practitioners qualified outside the European Union in the 1980s. This doctoral research proposes to study this particular category of doctors in the Poitou-Charentes region (France); for that, this work crosses geography of international migrations and health geography. This study questions the presence, geographical distribution, conditions of exercise and trajectory and projects of these highly skilled migrants. This doctoral thesis analyzes the context in which this migration took place, its evolution and the issues and challenges for these "invisible" to fully integrate the French medical profession.
