L'enseignement de l'analyse au lycée : les débuts du jeu global/local dans l'environnement de calculatrices.

Abstract : This research deals with the teaching and learning of Analysis at a secondary school level. A particular aspect of the introduction of Analysis is focused on: the articulation between a global point of view and a local point of view with respect to functional objects (that is referred to as “global/local game”). In the thesis the following question is tackled: can the articulation between global and local point of view, within the environment of graphic and symbolic calculators, be a foundation for the introduction of Analysis at a secondary school level? In order to provide an answer to this question a diagnostic didactical engineering centred on a didactical sequence aimed to introduce the global/local game at a secondary school level. The construction uses some cognitive research concerned with the analysis of metaphors and their role with respect to conceptualisation in mathematics and it exploits the potentialities of the ‘zoom’ function of the graphic and symbolic calculators. Analysis of three experimentation in Italy shows that the introduction of the global/local game via the ‘zoom’ function is possible. In addition, it focuses attention to metaphors as a crucial element of students’ cognitive processes on the one hand, and to the need for attaching a mathematical meaning to them and to the control the teacher has to play on the other hand.
