Los efectos de un sistema nacional de evaluación sobre la enseñanza de las matemáticas: El caso de SIMCE en Chile

Abstract : In our research, we are interested in studying the effects of a standardized evaluation system of teaching mathematics, considering the special case of the evaluation SIMCE, Chile. It influences increasingly the education system, including its organization, the programs, content, tasks offered, and as a consequence teaching practices. Various studies show that the effects are not necessarily positive. They also show how the pressure exerted on schools and teachers to improve their scores, tends to induce a damaging concentration of education to prepare students for assessments. On the theoretical side, we located under the Anthropological Theory of Didactics, which seems appropriate given the role in this theory institutions. To meet the needs of our study focused on geometry, we also used the concept of Geometric Paradigm. The analyzes allow us to locate the assessment SIMCE compared to other large-scale assessments: PISA, TIMSS and SERCE. We also investigated to what extent SIMCE is representative of the values of the content and spirit of the Chilean curriculum. During our field study conducted in 12 institutions, we examined the ratio of teachers to SIMCE and showed its dependence on socioeconomic level institutions, identified various measures put in place to prepare students for SIMCE and highlighted some effects practices such as curricular contraction in content and tasks.
