Apport de la Géostatistique à la Modélisation Hydrologique : Étude de Bassins Hydrologiques en Zone Soudano-Sahélienne

Abstract : The analysis, critics, and comparison studies of model versions in hydrology, started during the research at University Montpellier 2 (Koné, 2007), contributed to the improvement of a spatio-temporal conceptual model, of GR2M type (Model of the CEMAGREF - Genie Rural at 2 parameters at Monthly time step), while proposing a modification among others on the basis of geo-statistical considerations : the proposition of a weighting factor on different grids of a watershed, related to their “elementary contributions” to runoff discharges at the outlet of this hydro-system. The semi-distribution concept is to make the model input (entry) distributed as a grid whereas its output is not distributed. During this dissertation work at Montpellier some others proposed methodologies were tested with different versions (semi-distributed and non-distributed) of the GR2M hydrologic model, on a set of 16 watersheds as samples. Conceptual models present the advantage to be simple and close to the functioning of the hydrological system to simulate, yet, without respecting the whole physics of exchanges processes between this system's compartments. These models are preferentially used in situations where observations data are rare or little reliable. Their use permits the production of data intended to filling hiatuses in observation series of rivers discharges, and also (to the production) of estimations as entries data for complex models - semi-physical or physical basis. The present study compares internal subtleties of different models versions, through their simulation results, as information sources that lead to the "perfecting" of these models, and enriches the literature in reproducible and/or adaptable methodologies, on other models and in other contexts. GR2M model and one of its variants named SimulHyd (Simulation of Hydrological Systems), in their semi-distributed and non-distributed versions, are in the center of the present research. One of the targeted objectives is on the one hand, after having recreated an effective version of the work tool, (which is a numerical simulation framework, with its reconstituted hydro-climatic database), to test the propositions from the previous works (Koné, 2007) through the SimulHyd model, and on the other hand, to explore the geostatistics application possibilities in order to improving hydrological modelling.
