Uncertainty analysis and decision-aid: methodological, technical and managerial contributions to engineering and R&D studies

Abstract : The main message delivered by this document, which is also the connecting thread of the technical and scientific activity presented herein, is that advanced mathematical methods and tools, particularly from the domain of probability and statistics, are necessary to solve engineering problems. These methods, most of engineers are not fully familiar with, are becoming more and more essential in the industrial practice. The goal of this document is also to summarize and highlight a number of personal works and contributions to different technical and scientific fields. These contributions are of different natures: (i) methodological: adapting, enhancing or criticizing the use of methods and tools, (ii) technical: solving particular engineering problems, (iii) managerial: organizing and driving research activities and projects. In spite of the diversity of methods, tools, fields of application and personal contributions given, all of these works stay coherently in the same mainline: enhancing engineering studies by means of advanced mathematical tools for coping with uncertainties and recommending decisions.
