Sur la modélisation et la commande de véhicules automobiles

Abstract : The study presented in this thesis deals with the application of automatic control techniques to automotive field. The modelling and control aspects have been particularly studied. Two main parts may be distinguished. In the first one, independent sub models are developed based on the essential dynamics related to the longitudinal, vertical and lateral behaviors. In this context, the typical main quantifiers to evaluate vehicle dynamic behavior are mentioned, more particularly, the performance, the ride quality and the handling quality. In the second part, some control problems are emphasized that allow to improve the vehicle dynamic behavior. An advanced control methodology developed in the Laboratoire d'Automatique de Grenoble and based on the optimal robust control approach is presented. A control approach to deal with the automatic steering problem is proposed where the feedback is only on the lateral displacement. For simulation evaluation purpose, a vehicle full-scale nonlinear model is used.
