Abstract : Today, web content and applications are becoming the main interface to performing all kinds of daily tasks such as stating and paying government taxes, booking plane or train tickets, planning holidays, shopping, managing bank accounts, etc. As a consequence, it is becoming increasingly important to study their foundations, enhance their capabilities, facilitate their design, verify their correctness, optimize them automatically and make them more flexible and adaptive. In this document, we first describe my professional activities, concerning the years from 1998 to 2012. The first part of this document contains a summary of my research related activities and of teaching and administrational duties, as well as a summary of my scientific results. In the remaining part of the document, we introduce a logic for reasoning over finite trees, a sound and complete decision procedure for checking the satisfiability of a formula of the logic as well as an effective implementation. The logic is a variant of mu-calculus adapted for finite trees and equipped with backward modalities and nominals. Then, we consider the problem of XML Schema evolution. In the ever-changing context of the web, XML schemas continuously change in order to cope with the natural evolution of entities they describe. Schema changes have important consequences as existing documents may become invalid and manipulating programs may become unsafe. We propose a unifying framework for determining the effects of XML Schema evolution both on the validity of documents and on queries. In the last part of the document, we consider a type algebra equipped with recursive, product, function, intersection, union, and complement types together with type variables and implicit universal quantification over them. We consider the subtyping relation recently defined by Castagna and Xu over such type expressions and show that this relation can be decided in EXPTIME and implemented efficiently answering an open question in the literature.
