Faire profession d'historien au XVIIe siècle : étude de la carrière de Pierre Louvet, 1617-1684

Abstract : This thesis, which is a contribution to the social history of intellectual work, aims to describe the career of Pierre Louvet (1617-1684). If he is now forgotten and if he was regarded as an insignifiant historian during his lifetime, the study of his path remains particularly interesting, because of its originality. Although he was born in the bottom of the pyramid, he succeed to live on history without becoming a cleric or the creature of a nobleman, except temporarily. Most of time, he offered his services to local communities in the South of France as archivist or as local historian, specialized in the writing of summaries.
