Etude et développement de la méthode TWSTFT phase pour des comparaisons hautes performances d'étalons primaires de fréquence

Abstract : The code-based Two-Way Satellite Time and Frequency Transfer technique reveals strong performance in the TAI/UTC realization in terms of micro-wave links stability on the one side and the combined uncertainty of the [UTC-UTC(k)] on the other side. However, as far as the performance of this method is limited by the use of the code's narrow bandwidth, which doesn't allow primary frequency standards comparisons on averaging times less than 1 day, the use of the carrier phase is a great potential solution. The work presented in this thesis aims to study and develop the TWSTFT carrier-phase technique which was chosen according to some consistent criteria as the availability and the suitable configuration of two ground stations, the high performance clock signals distribution, the in-built satellite simulator and the use of the same frequency band on the satellite. The presented technique applies simultaneous two-way measurements between remote stations and ranging measurements related to each one. The whole system is based on the wave propagation principle related to the carrier velocity. In addition, an experimental analysis using the code and the phase is done and some effective solutions that reduce the noise on the links are proposed. The measurements results obtained by applying this technique in our laboratory using two stations in collocation driven by the same high performance active Hydrogen Maser clock show a frequency stability of 1 x 10-12 at 1 s and 3 x 10-14 at 100 s. This work is achieved by our contribution in applying the two-way time transfer technique on a fiber link with a length of 540 km in collaboration with LPL, which revealed very promising results
