Implications tactiles et visuelles de la rugosité du bois et des matériaux dérivés du pin maritime

Abstract : The proper use and control of the psycho-sensorial properties of commercial materials are important features in industrial processes. Siimilar to other senses, the sense of touch also plays a major role in the act of purchase. The surface quality of wood material is particularly important in the furniture industry. The objectives of this study are twofold. The first one is to analyse the influence of topographical height of the surfaces of various sanded pine-based engineered wood products on tactile roughness perception. The second objective is to investigate the influence of vision on tactile roughness perception. The following three independent studies were performed to accomplish these objectives : measurement of surface profiles utilizing non contact 3d techniques, image acquisition by means of digital camera under same lighting conditions, and sensory evaluation by test persons. The relationships between measured physical parameters and sensorial results were then examined.
