"polonais, hongrois, deux frères" : la représentation des plus anciennes relations polono-hongroises dans l'historiographie du Moyen-Age à nos jours et la question des origines médiévales du mythe de l'amitié polono-hongroise.

Abstract : The present dissertation is dedicated to the problem of the genesis of the Polish-Hungarian friendship's myth, which is a very popular topic in both countries since the XIXth century. One of this myth's most characteristic features being the affirmation of its ancientness, the analysis of the representation of Poland's and Hungary's common past from their birth in the second half of the Xth century until the Piast-Anjou alliance in the XIVth century into the historiography of these countries and - to a lesser extent - of their neighbors constitutes then logically one of the main axis of research in this study. The second axis, which is strongly linked to the first one, touches the possible existence of traces of the Polish-Hungarian frienship's idea before the XIXth century: we especially focused on the first centuries of Poland and Hungary's history, but we also examined the following periods. The analysis of these two main themes clearly shows the presence of references to a Polish-Hungarian friendship in those two countries' historiography as early as the XIIth and the XIIIth centuries, but the influence of this phenomenon remained very limited - especially in Hungary and in the neighboring countries - until the XIXth century. Besides, it should be added that even if the rise of the friendship's myth at that period does not make any reference to its medieval antecessors, the friendship's celebration frequently evocates - especially in the official sphere - peoples or events dating back from the first centuries of those two countries' history in order to prove its ancientness and its solidity. The existence of this mechanism of recuperation enables then us to affirm that in spite of the discontinuous aspect of the history of the Polish-Hungarian friendship's idea, the representation of the oldest relationships between those two countries and the celebration of their friendship are very strongly linked and constitutes the "tank" and the "engine" of a machine whose function would be to redraw Poland's and Hungary's common past.
