Prosodic characterization and recognition of the declarative modality of the Spanish in Canary Islands

Abstract : Our research is part of the AMPER (Multimedia Prosodic Atlas of the Romance Area) project and its main objective is to provide a more systematic prosodic characterization of the declarative modality of the Spanish spoken in the Canary Islands. After a detailed analysis combining linguistic and sociolinguistic variables, the acoustic and perceptive results confirm that, beyond the coincidences with other varieties, the intonation of the Canary Islands Spanish is perfectly recognizable.
