Systèmes optiques interférentiels et incertitudes

Abstract : Technological developments foster the process of interference optical systems including a lot of components. Formulas of dielectric filters with more than few hundred layers are proposed for example. Moreover, the coherent laser beam combining by the use of tens to few hundreds fiber lasers is studied in a lot of research labs. Other systems like bi or tridimensionnal diffraction gratings composed of a large number of apertures can be studied. The robustness assessment of such interference systems regarding the manufacturing uncertainties is an important issue but this task is very difficult when the number of parameters describing the system is large. In this report, we present the methodologies related to the design of numerical experiments and the results concerning their quality to explore large spaces. This quality assessment is done through the construction of a graph: the Minimal Spanning Tree. In a second part, the analysis of the influence of the uncertainties of the input parameters of the interference systems on the system performances is illustrated through two applications: thin film dielectric coatings and coherent combination of fiber laser sources. This methodology allows us to identify the most critical parameters and synergies within the system while also building efficient metamodels. Based on these achievements, we present a new spatial characterization of the laser speckle generated by rough surfaces and we enhance the methodology of the spatial variability characterization of optical phenomena. Finally, scientific perspectives from all of these research activities are developed. (PS: Slides presented during the HDR defence were added at the end of the original document: pages 170-202).
